●Recycled metal
All nickel alloys used in WAITING FOR THE SUN frames are made from scraps generated during the production process.
●Bio-Acetate
In the eyewear industry, waste is said to account for 70-80% of the total weight of materials involved in the production process. We had a hard time finding a material that was suitable for glasses and could minimize the negative impact on the earth. Cotton, which is mainly used for acetate, was quickly excluded as a material for WAITING FOR THE SUN because it takes a lot of water to grow and is often sourced from problematic regions.
WAITING FOR THE SUN's bio-acetate is recyclable. We collect waste from machining and reuse some of it in the manufacturing process of the material. Our bio-acetate is made from wood fibre. Well-managed and well-grown forests contribute to reducing greenhouse gases. Growing trees release more oxygen and absorb more CO2 than aging trees.
Our plastic frames are 100% biodegradable plastic. This bio-acetate has been verified and certified (in accordance with ISO14855) by OWS (Organic Waste Systems), an internationally recognized independent laboratory specializing in biodegradability testing.
